There’s something magical about cutting up paper with a group of strangers… and leaving as a room full of collaborators.
On March 7, 2026, Milford Makes hosted our very first collage workshop in Milford, Connecticut, and it was everything we hoped it would be—creative, welcoming, a little messy, and full of connection.
A Creative Space for Everyone
This beginner-friendly art workshop was designed to be accessible to all skill levels. Whether participants had a background in art or hadn’t picked up scissors in years, everyone was invited to explore, experiment, and create at their own pace.
We provided a wide variety of collage materials, including:
- Magazines and books ready for a second life
- Scrap paper, textures, and patterns
- Adhesives, scissors, and tools
- A relaxed, judgment-free environment
(Arguably the most important supply of all.)
More Than Just a Craft Night
What made this event special wasn’t just the finished pieces—it was the experience of creating together.
Throughout the workshop, we saw:
- People swapping materials and ideas
- Conversations sparking over shared images
- Quiet moments of focus and bursts of laughter
This is exactly what Milford Makes is all about—building community through creativity.
The Power of Creative Reuse
One of the core ideas behind this workshop was creative reuse—taking materials that otherwise be discarded and transforming them into something meaningful.
Collage is a perfect entry point into this mindset. It’s low-pressure, highly expressive, and a great reminder that creativity doesn’t need expensive supplies—just a willingness to play.
A Strong Start for Milford Makes
As one of our first public events, this collage workshop marked an exciting milestone. It showed us what’s possible when people come together to make something with their hands.
