What a Day at Cultivate & Create Looks Like

Imagine waking up on a Saturday knowing that for the entire day, you don’t have anywhere else you need to be.

No errands to run. No projects to finish. No one asking what’s for dinner.

Just a day set aside to make, rest, eat well, and spend time with other creative people.

That’s the idea behind Cultivate & Create: A Restorative Retreat for Makers. We’ve thoughtfully planned the day so there is enough structure to give you a meaningful experience—but plenty of room to breathe, wander, create, or simply sit and enjoy the day.

Here’s a little peek at what your day will look like.

Arrive, Settle In & Start Slowly

Your retreat day begins with a light breakfast and time to settle into the peaceful retreat setting at Sticks & Stones Retreat Center.

Grab a cup of something warm, meet the other makers, find your spot, and start getting comfortable. Bring your current creative project with you—knitting, crochet, quilting, scrapbooking, embroidery, journaling, watercolor, hand sewing, writing, or whatever you love to make.

There is no need to arrive ready to do anything.

The day is just beginning.

A Little Nourishment for the Creative Spirit

Nourish your belly and spirit

Throughout the morning, we’ll move into experiences designed to help you reconnect with your creativity in ways that aren’t about productivity.

Tammy Theis Satterlee will lead a meditative creativity workshop combining SoulCollage® and reflective writing, offering an opportunity to explore ideas and inspiration through images, words, and personal reflection.

Later, Liz Garypie will guide us through The Herbal Tea Ritual, including a guided tea tasting and the creation of your own Creative Clarity tea sachet to take home.

These aren’t classes where you need to worry about doing it “right.” They’re invitations to slow down, experiment, notice, and see where your creativity takes you.

Then… Time to Make

One of the most important parts of the day is Open Studio time.

This is your chance to simply sit down and make.

Come as you are. Bring something to make. Leave the pressure at home.

Bring the project you’ve been meaning to work on. Start something new. Finish something that’s been sitting in a basket for six months. (No judgment—we makers know that basket.)

Or bring several projects and decide when you get there.

You’ll have dedicated, uninterrupted time to work alongside other makers, surrounded by creative energy and conversation—but without the pressure to produce anything.

You can chat. You can work quietly. You can wander around and see what everyone else is making.

And if you need a break from your project, that’s perfectly fine too.

Lunch, Snacks & Good Conversation

Making in community

Creative days require fuel.

Kitchen Melissa will provide a catered buffet lunch, followed by an afternoon grazing table so there’s always something delicious to nibble on.

And because some of the best parts of creative gatherings happen around the table, there will be plenty of opportunities to sit, eat, talk, and get to know the people sharing the day with you.

You may arrive knowing no one.

You may leave with a new creative friend—or three.

Time to Step Away

At some point during the day, we’ll step away from our projects and give our bodies and minds a chance to reset.

Gentle Chair Yoga for Makers

Kelly Warters of A Breath of Calm Yoga will lead a gentle Chair Yoga for Makers session designed specifically with creative bodies in mind.

We’ll also have an opportunity for a meditative nature walk through the retreat grounds, weather permitting.

And there will be quiet moments built into the day, too.

Because rest doesn’t need to be another activity you have to accomplish.

If you’d rather sit with your tea, look out the window, journal, or simply do absolutely nothing for a little while, that’s part of the retreat, too.

Create Something Together

Although you’ll have plenty of time for your own projects, you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to a collaborative community art project.

It’s a small reminder that creativity doesn’t always have to be solitary. Sometimes the most interesting things happen when a room full of people each adds a little something of their own.

You won’t know exactly what everyone else is making when you arrive.

That’s part of the fun.

And a Few Little Extras

Because it’s a retreat, we’ve included a few things simply because they’re nice.

You’ll receive a thoughtfully curated gift bag, and we’ll have a raffle featuring donations from local businesses.

And if you’d like an extra bit of pampering, chair massages with Rose Napoli, PT, ASSC, Massage THP will be available as an optional $20 add-on.

Nothing is required.

They’re just little ways to make the day feel special.

Leave With More Than You Brought

By the end of the day, we hope you’ll have made something—but that’s not really the measure of success.

Maybe you finished a project.

Maybe you started one.

Maybe you discovered a new creative practice.

Maybe you spent an hour talking with someone you never would have met otherwise.

Maybe you took a walk, drank tea, laughed a lot, and remembered how good it feels to have a whole day that isn’t about getting things done.

That’s what Cultivate & Create is really about.

Giving yourself permission to slow down.

To make something simply because you enjoy making it.

To rest without feeling guilty.

And to spend a day in the company of people who understand why a basket of yarn, a stack of pretty paper, a pile of fabric, or a half-finished project can make us ridiculously happy.

Come as you are. Bring something to make. Leave the pressure at home.

We can’t wait to spend the day creating with you.
